Park meters, dispencers..
London, subway ticket dispenser (années 70/80 ?).. These gears are generally frightening. But abroad, it's getting worse ! hibis

And for this giant RER's distributor, it's still in French! Paris-La Défense , it should be simple! but we don't understand anything. We asked for help ! Among other things, there was an additional refinement: "with or without ticket valid for Paris", while we were in Paris. But it was for the return. And you had to keep your ticket so you could go out the RER.

Laiterie automatique.

A great idea for selling fresh milk on the farm, the automatic latteria is the work of Italian genius.
the cows are going to be milked themselves..
I saw a simplified version in a basque country village, but without the cows ! Unfortunately, it didn't work.  voir "the food"
Park meter. The sight of the panel is anguishing (clic !)  1,2,3 - 1,2,3;  finally it's clear, except that we must also enter the license plate number of our car and pay. So far everything is - almost - normal. We then wait for the ticket, which does not come. Nothing. We look dazed for the third time, we have to face the facts, we won't have any tickets. That's how it works !..    hibis

Gold plated dispenser.
It's the least you can do when you distribute.. gold bullions !!

made in Germany and installed in a Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Sexual tax (Courrier International 2011)   This ticket dispenser is an audacity (2010). failing to impose prostitutes on the sidewalk, the authorities in Bonn (Germany), have developed this toll system.. The seven days of the week, for each night from 8:15 pm to 6 am, it's 6 euros per prostitute whatever the number of clients (tout de même). The German organisation does not stop there, because in return, wooden boxes located away from the houses have been made available for the cars of the clients, with a guard for 6 boxes, and sanitary facilities.
Prostitutes who work in institutions are legally taxed on other grounds.

What is it ? 5.45 euros per night, from 8pm to 9am.
A comparable price, but it is at the seaside, in France, where we are well able to regulate the evidence, let alone offer a decent service in exchange. It is therefore not a question of sex, but of parking mobile homes. In pretty bad condition and out of order and out of order> Normal, what. Another failed experiment ? (France)

It doesn't make a sense !

In Quebec, under American influence, the first level is designated as the first floor, which is for the French the rez-de-chaussée , alike the British floor numbering (Ground floor, First floor).

Note : one say "a 14-storey building", but "the 14th floor". The word storey is only for the number of floors/levels.

Beliefs In China, in a journalist's hotel, there was no 4th floor, no 14th floor, no 13th !! (4 for the China, 14 for Italy, 13 (Christian countries).

- The direction of a wind is the one  from where it comes .

- The direction of a stream is the one  to where it goes..

An easterly current goes in the same direction as a westerly wind..

We're losing the North !

This indication of the cardinal points is enough to turn many heads. The north is opposed to the west !! the rest is the same. The explanation is all oriental ! Turks used to associate black with north . In short, there is still a lack of understanding. More clearly, the Black Sea has taken this name because it is to the north, despite its pretty Mediterranean blue.

This old headlight of the Strait of the Bosphorus, between Istanbul and the Black Sea, is one of the few hundreds which were built in Turkey under the impulse of a French navigator. He Became immensely rich, was called "Pasha", and built large houses on a hill of Tamaris (la Seyne sur mer, France)), the "villas Pasha" of today.
He will end his days there. It is a place I know well, facing the peninsula of Saint-Mandrier.

The rotation of these headlights is mechanical and its rotation is wound up manually. Broadcast TV FR3.

Oceans bumpy ?
The case of Panama.
The satellite image 2002 Germano-US left hand shows the variations of gravity due to differences in density of different materials inside the earth (view for the middle east, India and Japan on the right) : In red, the denser areas (including central Indonesia to Australia), in blue the least dense (including sea south of India, left). The ground is only bumpy by the natural relief (plains and mountains). About the sea, it is quite different because of the malleability of water (tidal observation). One of effects truly palpable that there are 30 vertical meters between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean levels, thus both sides of the Panama Canal (which we do not see unfortunately here). It is therefore considered thatthe sea level can vary up to a hundred meters between the highest points and lowest kind of huge bulges and hollows, but without uphills and downslopes because the gravity is always perpendicular to the surface !

Well understanding of the reality at Panama : digging horizontally at Panama, we should normally find the sea at the same level on the other side, but no, there is a difference of thirty meters ! overflow in a direction, or drowned in the other. It's hard to imagine.
Knowledge has mainly increased with satellites, which measure "from above". But let us pay tribute to Erathostene who, 200 years before Christ, measured the dimensions of the earth with 80% accuracy ! this at a time when, it is said, we still thought it was flat.. we can guess the emotion aroused, comparable to that of Galileo Galilei, proving the rotation of the earth around the sun, and not the contrary (e puro, si muove).

Line-fishing
Fish caught.. with a fishing rod !
We could imagine a few fishermen sitting on the edge of a dike, or on the edge of a boat. But there are many of them here, one against the other around the boat, sitting on a board.
I quote, "Fishing rods move up and down at a frantic pace. Tunas fly and fall right behind them into a hole".
It is said to be the most environmentally friendly fishery in the world, avoiding as much fish stress as possible. After the take, in the hole, I don't know.

I quote, "Powerful jets of water gush all around, drumming the sea underneath the fishermen: it is, it is specified, so that the fishermen do not see the fishermen ! "
Fish caught with a line (longline), continued.
A single line, but what a line !
"fishermen let a main line run for about fifty km and at regular intervals attach secondary lines equipped with bait. Every night, this boat "drops a thousand hooks adrift" (at night, albatrosses sleep!) It also means that the fish caught will be dragged, dying of exhaustion, for hours, but also that seabirds will swallow their hooks.

A New Zealander, uses fabric coils that frighten them. And it also thaws its baits before starting its lines so that they disappear faster underwater. It also shoots bigeye tuna, which can weigh over three hundred kilograms, with a bullet. It must be said that New Zealand law imposes these methods in its territorial waters.

Distrusting
Here, in Luberon, all can disappear and it is not the Mistral that can blow away things. !!
I saw a much more astonishing case in the Var (côte d'Azur), where was sealed deep in the ground a giant pot, weighing a ton or more, posted along a pedestrial narrow lane, edging a cliff overlooking the sea. hibis
Luberon; voici A small tree, which wouln't deserve a special award, but looking closer, one sees that its owner love it very much, and chained it.  Click !  Clic ! hibis
In fact, these moorings are now everywhere for everything is disappearing.
The sealed chain attached to bar table foot embrace two folding chairs..

Modest driftwood decors, placed in the middle of a double track road, do not escape this precaution!

Now on, we chain everything, everywhere, even vehicles.. Amazing, but clever, it's worth lookind at  "vehicules".

I am far from having seen it all: hereafter, : in a store toilets, attached with a chain, a toilet brush !! Without photo, but take my word. hibis.

Short Stories of hotels and rooms.
Ostfriesland Hotel in Norden, Germany, decided to calculate the price of rooms according to the weight of customers : for every kilogram you have to pay €0.50.
Thus, the same room will cost €30 if it weighs 60 kg, but €50 for someone who weighs 100 kg. Customers slender live longer, says Jürgen Heckroth, the owner, so they may come more often. That's why we reward them.

Charmng hotels.
On the model of Chelsea NY (*), they seek to customize the look and the rooms of some hotels to satisfy a demanding clientele in search of originality or emotion.
Thus, in Paris, a hotel just moved to the site of a bakery, which was frequented by some famous person. They retained the representation of that place, in a sense of historic setting.

In Italy, one of them proposes nothing less than "Dante's Inferno" and one climb from the floors of the Paradise  to the Hell - thing were a little embellished - with the adequate decor - hot - red and black. Ecstasy or thrill in each room according to his own taste. I do not know if the Dante sentence - for the Hell - was reproduced at the entrance to the hotel : "Voi che entrate a qui, lasciate fuori le vostre speranze" (you who get in there, leave yours hopes outside), but relating to rooms's rates, it might be right.
I do not know where, but a hotel has chosen the theme of the prison, with cells as a bedroom. Bars and hard bench should be part of basic amenities. For anyone newly released, the transition will be even sweeter.

In the USA, they offer true cells inside a true abandonned prison.

(*) This hotel is classified as historical monuments of NY, because the boss at the time, Stanley Bard, were greeting freely some people in difficulty. He so housed for two years freely without knowing it, Milos Forman, Czech film director. The hotel became famous as the film director stayed there for another three years despite his financial success (Taking Off, 71 - flying over a cuckoo's nest). Forty years later, he still went down to Chelsea and at it again, although the boss, after fifty years of creation of the legendary hotel, has been replaced. Milos Forman is actually the largest shareholder. "Le Monde 2, January 2008, for the Chelsea Hotel.

hotels of charm and charms.
In Japan, there are hotels "at one hour"- having a legally storefront, and as nothing is simple there, the facades of some of them are quite surprising. One is the coach of Her Majesty the Queen of England. But I do not know what he has inside. Two of them deserve a particular attention : rooms designed from the car to the bus, or beds that rise to the ceiling or plunge in an aquarium.

Bedrooms. It is very difficult to imagine the small secrets of  people, but thinking only at the rooms, you can imagine that there are decorations and furniture quite uncommon.
- In the issue of a Radio France broadcast, they quoted a famous actor that has stuck to the ceiling, wall to wall, a view of New York by helicopter so lying upon the bed, he flews himself over the City !
- An architect living on the top floor near Montmartre realized he saw the Sacred Coeur by its skylight. He cut a part of the roof, which was glazed, so that his bed, he can admire the breathtaking view.
- There are big round beds, and undoubtedly mechanical retractions style "James Bond"! .

Making our best
Here we are, we have got running water supply.. but it's not thank to the postman as we might think   hibis Palermo (Sicily). Like in lots of southern cities, balconies are used for drying the household linen, and to put things away. Nearby the market, it is handy to let down a basket and get some food  ! (Click) hibis
