- Security, electric leak, flooding, lightening. - Domestic appliance, microwave oven, fridge,  washing machines, hoover.

Safety first.

Current leak
- overflowing, floor wet or damp. The presence of tilings amplify the electric risk. In the event of flooding, do not go straightly to the appliance, or try nothing else before the meter has been first switched off.

Current leak may result from a defective electric isolation inside the unit. If you sometimes feel slight electric shock, you have to ensure that the device has no electrical leak use a simple neon tester, usually sold with a small screwdriver whose handle is translucent. We hold the isolated part of tester in hand, pressing the forefinger on the  metal top, then set the screwdriver point on some bare metal (unpainted) ; if there is a leak, the neon lamp glows.
Practice yourself by putting the screwdriver tip into the holes of a socket (you don't not risk anything) and you'll see the neon glowing only in one hole ! this unit can also be used to test for current presence on a defective lamp or another powered item (flat iron etc.)

Overflowing. DON'T GO TO THE MACHINE !  go and switch off first the main current at the fuses panel,

DO NOT swich on if the floor is not DRY.
Beware from metallic equipment during lightning storms :
we know the extreme case of a co-worker who narrowly escaped when she opened her fridge, bare foot on a moisty floor.

Microwave, danger : the device cook by penetration of a very high frequency electromagnetic field, but mainly inside any mass contening water. the cooking is done throughout the mass, that is to say, from the inside instead of the outside for conventional cooking. This may get blowing up a  food, and especially eggs, due to the pressure of the internal vapor that can't escape, they increase  until the explosion.

Foods without water (few of them don't have), do not cook. ANY METAL IS PROHIBITED, neither cats to make them dry after their bath (serious american story), nor valuable wrist clock (they are not joke, but true). Some people dry there their lingerie, but why not after all, if  the rules of hygiene are respected.

The nature of the waves is the same as the cellular phones wave of second and third generation, and is close to the infrared light rays (heatings were noticed near the ear and it is not advisable to maintain his cell phone long to the ear, especially with the last generation (always more). In fact the base of the brain is ready to cook !

How dangerous they are has long been suspected, and that's why the door has a metal grid that stops them. The opening must cut the emission of the magnetron. Leaks from the door seal have sucked stigmatized, especially by manufacturers of leak detectors. Here are the results of a study of the "Center for Devices and Radiological Health" a section of the "Food and Drug Administration" U.S.. For the Control Service, the maximum emission of radiation must not exceed five milliwatts per square centimeter two inches away. And they find that "The level of radiation decrease rapidly with distance, level at 60 centimeters distance is about one hundredth of the level to five centimeters. If your microwave is standard, no need to worry, unless the Opening the door does not cut the power. Keep away only if you have any fears.

- Refrigerator; When the door of a refrigerator is opened, the cold air, denser, runs on your feet !  think at it. It is not the case for an horizontal vat freezer because the cold air "remains at the bottom" and can't escape when the lid is raised, if not by air exchange. For this reason, the vats of hypermarkets can remain open without too much losses ( there are some of course : approach your hand above and you will realize it).

Serious risks. It should be at least cleaned regularly (each month or twice), because microbes like particularly all it is confined ; there is nothing better than the open and ventilated air to cleanse; it is the same for water (it is in still water, in the shade, which one make bad encounter, including at the swimming pool). The refrigerators are differently built according to whether they have a vat of congelation or not, being used as ice-tray; thus two possibilities: 1 - the cold is produced at the top, at the place of the ice-tray : in this case, ) the temperature is coldest at the top  ; 2 - with a separated congelation vat, there can be a cooling plate covering nearly all the back of the fridge : in this case the cold is almost the same for all the height (excepted vegetable compartment ; example (mine one) between 5 and 10 degrees according to the moment (end or beginning of cycle of refrigeration), practically to entire height, measures made close to the the freezing plate (bottom).
Whatever the case, it is at the area furthest away from the freezing plate that the temperature is the least cold, and specially near the door, in the door, at its lower part and on the handle side). So that, think placing your "risky" products (pork-butchery...) close or within the cooling plate, or near the freezing tray (not inside). A special 2/3 celcius box is the best choice for these products, along with a ventilated cooling.

Freezer- congelator ; half empty box of ice-cream or anything else. Both humidity must be kept inside boxes, and contact of the rest of the product with air avoided. In this way, I put a piece of a shrinkable film inside, well pressed in close contact with the ice-cream, or else. Then close the cover on the rest of the film hanging outside. The ice-cream keep its fresh color much longer (does not turn out marroon). Try it too and tell me please what is your point.

Ice-tray; the refrigerator desiccates all products which are placed in it because it removes, by ice formation, the quantity of water which the air can't no longer contain (comparable to the phenomenon of condensation of water on cars on early morning). This water is thus turned into a white frost, in particular inside the ice-tray ; it is thus necessary to avoid placing trays for ice cubes on open air. I advice to use small plastic pockets of congelation and place them inside (one by small pocket). Aspire the air if you it can in order to flaten the plastic on the surface of the water and close with a plastic clip. This way, you won't any longer spill out water while putting the ice-tray in the refrigerator. Of course, you can use also  these small plastic pockets one fill with water and ties.

- Freezer: the "cri-cri" (in French) of the cricket. > One can place an alarm to prevent that the door of the freezer of the refrigerator does not remain half-opened : get simply one of these electronic crickets which make hear a "cri-cri" cry as soon as the limps of the box it is opened ; one finds them on markets and if you see some, think at that ; Choose the most sensitive (should stop only if the lid is very well closed). You place it close to the opening of the door, without the box, hung with a hook or else.

- Dishwasher.
It is a delicate apparatus to regulate, because of the products which are used. The problem of glasses is particularly thorny, because they are both scratched and opacified ; the first thing to do is checking the rotating sprinklers to verify if no dust is stuffed into the holes, particularly at both ends.

1 - Salt. It is used to fight against the fur (lime) because it is an acid; it is the salt which scratches and opacify glasses by attacking them. It is thus necessary to limit it at least and carry out tests; one can request from the municipal the chemical analysis of water, but it is illusory. PROCEDURE : reduce salt to the minimum and the rinsing liquid along with ; observe the traces and deposits ; if there is lime (white layers on glasses), increase the number (example, from 1 to 2); make follow the number of rinsing liquid (1 to 2); go on (after several washings of observation) by increasing by a notch salt until disappearance of the white layers. Now, reduce of a notch and observe again to make sure that all is OK. If not, put the previous number.

They say that quantity of salt does match with quantity of rinsing liquid.

2 - Rinsing liquid. It may be that others spots appear due to the liquid of rinsing itself (see instructions). Try now to adjust the number in more or in less one notch ; see the result, but an excess of rinsing does not damage your glasses (I believe). Good luck ! mine is currently set on 2 everywhere, although water leaves fur (lime) traces in the carafes, percolator, while drying,. It is normal and completely essential that water contains lime; excessive apparatuses "antiliming" have sometimes completely damaged installations, pipings, without speaking about the human ones. Pure water (without lime) is acid and corrodes all !

- Dishwasher (washing product). Don't use multi purpose tablets (detetrgent + salt+water-repelient) because these products must be delivered each one at a time and not all of them  at the beginning with the detergent, also they have each one a dispenser setting depending on the lime water content.  Reduce the amount of detergent products by cutting the tablets in half (on plank wood with knife or scissors), even if the unit is full (except for heavily soiled dishes with egg yolk paste, fat burning..). You won't see the difference if you first wipe your too greasy-filthy pots/dishes. Economy, ecology. Avoid too intensive programs for your delicate glasses and dishes why they are suffering from (don't put in them delicate dishes or painted gold ones).Try it, you can only gain. and be real ecologist. ! I did some followers.

Dishwasher low water consumption. from a reader, probably to be avoided because we are paying more in longer cycles (electricity) and the increase in products. Information is rough, but be cautious and check you have all the good info.

- Washing curtains with the hooks. Idea of "Mrs. hibis" if you want to wash the curtains with their head fitted with hooks, formerly metal, you can group the head and place it in one of those little mesh bags for delicate washing.

Vigilance! rigid elements can slide into the holes of the drum and pass between the drum and the tank. For example, a rigid part of  bra. If this happens (scraping noise), open the drain trap (basin, mop ..) and push your fingers into the fins of the pump : can be trapped there (like other things). Or/and inspected with a flashlight.

- Vacuum. It is the power of aspiration which must guide your choice, the convenience of displacement on the fitted carpet (large wheels, especially in front of, which is rare), the replacement of the bags and the filters. Check also that all the detached adapt directly at the end of the flexible device, with or without the tube. Think that clogged filters reduce the power of aspiration. Also check the corner or joints of the pipes if you aspire large remains : fabric pieces, chips, duffels because wedges there.

- Vacuum robots. They have now a 18 to 40 watts power ; so what to do with it?  instead of 1400 watts?  I doubt, even considering a microscopic nozzle - which is not really the case - that we can draw anything other than light wollen dust and a bit of dust not stuck. Therefore, on a smooth floor, it is some work done, who knows?

- Suction : to clean fragile surfaces, black enamels, glass, paintings, wood rare... place the end of a sticking on the small aspiration brushe or other small tip by fixing it by a strong rubber band or by holding it with the hand ; you are less likely to stripe the surface and the small objects will not be aspired any more. The cleaning of the decorative objects (limp, statuettes, frameworks.), is carried out in the same way. The best is to make oneself a better adapted tip.

- Handle of vacuum cleaner ; when one temporarily ceases wacuum (replacement of succion tip, a telephone call..), one generally leans the handle of the vacuum cleaner against a wall, an armchair or a door.. and inevitably, the tube fall down, especially if the succion tip is equipped with casters; I suggest to roll around the higher part of the tube a band of non-skid mat, so that it slips less when one leans it against a surface; another solution consist in fixing a broad hook (metal, string) or a buckle of string at the same place, near the hand, which could be hooked at the handle of a nearby door.

Washing machines, comments for troubleshooting (laundry, dishes) They are quite complex and electronic models almost untouchable, except for some relatively simple faults, such as the pump breaking, often offending or overflowing. Even if you don't do any do-it-yourself, hibis inform you for a better understanding of the failure ; you will avoid possible abuse of a storekeeper. However, observe and write down first the usual cycles of your machine when it is working, that will help if there is something wrong one day ! (draining, filling, cold wash, drain, water heating, washing, etc.).
If does not drain anymore check first the pipe hat can be wedged or squeezed somewhere. If the the machine drains at starting as usual, it is not the pump that is involved.
This is just examples of observationt steps.

The machine does not drain anymore: first of all, unscrew the cap of the pump filter and check inside with your fingers, because it could be something that block the pump. I have found once a piece of bra !  the drain pump is located down behind the filter you have to remove for cleaning. It nothing is found, try to make the pump turning with your fingers.

If everything is well, 1/ you have to remove the external fitting and it is not an easy work. Sometimes impossible. Once the pump is located, empty the machine by siphoning with a hose and do restart it as usual. Checking the presence of current with a neon tester or a multimeter is not easy due to the presence of several wires and total isolation. If the drain command does occur on time, check if the pump starts running by listening the sound, seeing if the water is flowing up or touching the pump (vibrations).
2/ If there is no current applied to the pump, the failure can also come from a switch operated by the programmer that defines the cycles of action. And you have to contact the shopkeeper. The programmer consists of a small electric engine operating lots of contacts while rotating. Should hardly exist, replaced by electronics. In the mechanical models, it is the one you turn the button to choose the program.

2002 Price of a drain pump - often complained - 45/50 euros (Internet or local dealer, according to Gerald, a visitor satisfaction with his visit to hibis

The machine overflows: the filling level is limited by a pressure gauge placed in height, sometimes in the door (dishwasher), which is usually at the end of a pipe placed at height the water rises; air in the pipe is compressed and at a certain level, the gauge switch off the current of the water inlet valve. You possibly can check the tube, that can be plugged, by blowing into it; the switch make then a noise (its contacts can be checked with a continuity tester)

The machine won't fill up: all tapes are they open? yes: the water inlet valve does not open and has to be tested as well as the presence of current that powers it.
Other controls exist: a thermostat controlling the different temperatures ("hot water" time), timers giving the length of each cycle, a drying fan, and even a control for the purity of water in sophisticated models. In other words, we are enable to intervene much of the times.
