- Also, examples of achievements, making parts.

GLUES and ADHESIVES
No glue hold on greasy plastics (kind "Tuperwa..". These following very specialized glues won't be described further : glues for tire tubes - inflatable plastics - light, heavy or plastified/metallized wallpapers - insulating slabs Depron - fitted carpet - gypsum blocks .

Price and packaging; according to the use you are expecting to do, it is a significant element: between two glues/adhesives, make the good choice: you will not stick a fitted carpet with small dispenser tubes of adhesive neoprene. Nor a sole with the cyano, even if the adhesive is appropriate.

the stopper of a tube can't be unscrewed, put it under very warm water.
If the glue dispenser is stiking, or is punctured (mainly two components epoxy tubes and universal glue), wrap around several layers of a shrinkable kitchen film. Fold the back and put an adhesive tape.

Drying; Glues dry in general by the evaporation of solvents and the temperature plays a considerable role; the epoxy glue and cements are polymerized by the mixture; the cyano glue harden with the moisture of the air.

Cleaning the glue Fresh Cyano : use a special thinner (ceton kind) ; Epoxy (araldite...) on the hands : use a liquid detergent for washing machine (pure or with a little water). Neoprene : paint thinner (white spirit).

Preservation of adhesives, like "cyano" known as "instantaneous" (those which stick the skin), Cyanolit (the first marketing) and other marks. These tubes are always stopped, in spite of the precaution which one can take, and the plastic tip is very quickly damaged. It is necessary to pierce each time of use and that dries and stopped more and more. Afterwards of multiple trials, I found a solution I astill use now. The interest of the process being significant, it will be read as "to be asked".

Caution.  remember that a good preliminary cleaning is essential (clean very well both surfaces and degrease them with a not fat product like alcohol or substitute of trichlorethylene); the trichlorethylene is very aggressive for hands and also dissolves irremediably certain hard plastics). Check out to see if both surfaces must be coated and think of the time of drying..
The epoxy adhesive drip and runs lamentably, so you can first spread only a very fine glue layer on each part and wait a little for the glue to be thick enough : now finish spreading the glue and press the two parts. The adhesives are used in engines car, but the condition of joining are very rigorous (state of surfaces, absence of air) and our joinings cannot claim with this result.
It is necessary to tighten, of course, with much of adhesives and to hammer the neoprene adhesive for flexible materials (soles, leathers...).

Surface to prepare the mixture of an epoxy adhesive, which is the most general-purpose and often the strongest. Cut out bands in a plastic milk bottle or plastic/cardboard bottles of milk/beverages. Make the mixture onto, using a wooden 2/3 mm skewer diameter : the point will enable you to spread out the adhesive in thin film well exactly where you want : held the stick (skewer) very tilted, spin it it between the fingers for better spreading out and also to avoid the glue dripping everywhere ; ban all spatulas, except for significant quantities and large works.

Packaging. The packaging is what make sell better; most of the time, they are very generous. The weight or the volume content read on the label are supposed to inform us, but it is not enough for appreciating the real quantity. Here is a picture of a bottle of glue opened right after the purchase : so that it fits to its real content, it is necessary to squeeze it getting it this hollowed cheeks. The fact that the bottle is  only filled two thirds presents a significant drawback : the air anticipates the glue drying , a phenomenon that is growing abnormally with the use. To minimize this effect, squeeze a flexible glue tube before recapping it.

Here is a tube of glue cyanolit whose bottom was crushed with pliers. This cyano glue is drying very quickly when exposed to the air (due to bleu >moist). Carefully sealing the tube do not remove the inside air, and this air increase its volume as the tube empties . Here, I pinched the bottom because I have often seen bleu >glue harden there , as well in the neck, so that the glue climb up to the nozzle before recapping it (to be placed after in the freezer)<<>. crimson Take care not to punch the tube. A round shaped small plier is more suitable.

glue adds.
It is a lucrative market, a few grams can have the value of the ink printers, the price of a perfume. German chemists dominate the market, although the two most famous, epoxy glue and cyanol, are American. And to increase sales, they no longer hesitate to outbid shamefully on the qualifiers, or lie about the origin or the qualifications of any.

The glue here hide very well its origins to make believe in a new formula - fake or poor, there must be a new one each month - then it is a common cyanoacrylate rather thick , that means relatively slow. If there is something new, I have not found it. There were thick cyano glues for long. Strong & Safe sound always better; glue everything, super and also saw on TV as if the TV could be a sign of quality because they have paid to pass their spot! !  if we didn't have understood yet , they have add a string of superlatives, super strong, super fast, super tough. super nothing new !! it's a thick cyano !

Ungluing labels. The adhesives of labels are often adhesives you can't remove with water. Making soaking hours and hours does not générally succeed.
An effective way I was told is to use an hair dryer. I succeed with a powerhull one. It is finally a good way.

New possibility, seductive, soak it in white spirit (thinner) ! I thought it was staining, but Alain S, a reader, told me the opposite what I tested successfully ! White spirit does not stain and leaves no observable deposits. Place a thick cloth on top of the bottle lying horizontaly and soak it with white spirit for several hours and even at night! it's long but you can detach the label, which seems more rigid (? is that an impression), The glue on the label can then be scraped off by using a blade in places. and left drying in a sandwich between two plates, with a fabric to absorb.

Ungluing tapestry. Paste for wallpaper dissolves easily with water, but with plasticized ones, waterproof, "striping” is initially mandatory, i.e. skinning them with a dented with or lacerating them ; much of them are now stripables, i.e. that the first plasticized layer is torn off easily in large stripes. One wets afterwards. To wet, a reader said to me having used “a pulverizer of garden" but you can think to a smaller size for flowers. By the way, a big sized sponge will make the deal.

The insulating sheets like “dépron” are sometimes stuck with an adhesive neoprene kind. Tear off the sheets as well as possible and finish like below.

Removing the rest of adhesives fitteds carpet. This question is often asked to me about the fitteds carpet bond on wooden floors, staircases or tilings, with adhesive bands face or standard neopren glue. I do not have a miracle solution; I recommend to scrape the remainders of thick adhesive with a scraper (steel blade) which one can fix at the end of a handle of vacuum cleaner if one can, in order to relieve the strain. A strong kitchen knife (known as butcher knife) well sharpened and held with two hands, holded in skew, can make the deal. One after tries with detergents, thinners, terpentine or the product to unplug the sinks, containing caustic soda, or directly caustic soda ; mainly on tiling ; but prudence with the wooden floor if you want to rehabilitate it. It could be spoiled; Always try on a reduce surface.

Removing a protective paper strip for painting. The rolls of paper used for protecting a side that does not have to be painted, can have two defects: they do not hold or hold too much and one cannot any more remove them, after having waited too much. A reader I dont remember her name said to me that she had used a Scotch tape in replacement, but which it had melted a little with thepaint or was covered with it. She succeeded in removing it with a burner (powerful hair dryer). An idea for adhesives stripes that do not want any more to be removed, once the paint well dried, along with he necessary precautions for this kind of machine.

Two big drops of glue : left hand up, polyurethane (for wood); right hand bottom, vinylique white (for wood)..
The most round, bottom right hand, is going to flatter.
The same 24 hours later : the first has turned into a foam very quickly ; rather hard on the surface but not really inside (it is a foam). The second has very slowly collapsed in a flat film, totally transparent (rather hard and relatively supple).

Special uses. The Cyano cryalate glue (Cyanolit) allow to fill in a small hole or chip in the earthenware, porcelain and even to make a new part. Can harden with a significant thickness, alike this drop of cyano glue (photo) that shows the hardened drop left in a tube.

The two components epoxy glue also allow to bond, repair and reinforce fabric, canvas and leather . We can reinforce a hole. This glue keep a certain flexibilty and won't break the material.  Making a strap or putting a buckle to a belt is part of that opportunity, but also to put a patch of fabric in the purpose to sew a button torn off at the waist of a trouser. The metal epoxy adhesive paste can also stiffen, coat or make new broken parts (metal epoxy Scotch for cars).

The most used strong glues.

The "cyano" glue, thin or thick is somehow the best for small repairs ;
stick especially the fingers and clothes. Be very, very careful to your eyes !  it can sprinkle at the opening. The nozzle is always stopped and it is necessary to immediately well capping it (use a pin, a miniature drill or best, a large model barbed broach of dentist (I have some, it is necessary to ask him for).

Bond very well the rubber (organic like the fingers), some plastics, well degreased smooth metal,  belts at end, rubber rings of chains of binoculars/glasses. Backlash, the cyano makes them breakable (did you experience it on a fabric?, It is out !!. Always have some at home. Remember the best is the most fluid and fastest : the true one, the green one, infiltrate between the tightened parts, like a broken earthenware cup. Preserve in the refrigerator, the best being in the congelator, preferably inside a closed bag of sealed box.

Cyano glue more fluid ? heat it a few seconds with an hair dryer or in front of an halogen lamp.
The Cyano cryalate glue (Cyanolit) allow to fill in a small hole or chip in the earthenware, porcelain and even to make a new part. Can harden with a significant thickness, like this drop of cyano glue (photo) that shows the hardened drop left in a tube. Size  1 x1,2 x 1,7 cm.

Supplement interesting and effective cyano glues. Purchased at a demonstration booth at a trade salon, a fine white powder allows to reinforce a cyano glue bond. Simply pour the fine fluid powder on the yet liquid glue around the broken part and on the glue we add after around ; crystallization occurs, reinforcing the repair with an extra thickness. This is German of course, but not seen in store sales. The seller claims that only its glue, sold with, is acting with this product, but it is false: any cyano glue works perfectly. The extra thickness is discreet and can be naturally filing or sanding after drying. Perhaps coud it be colored if necessary but I have not tried. Here the reference : Repar-ex ; assembly powder ;  y.servely @ voila.fr

Glue with two componants (epoxy). The queen of the strong glue (kind of Araldite). A desk leg clamped strongly during the glue hardening never fails in thirty years. For hard wood of medium size, like a table foot, or when the adhesive must be thin.
Tip: the two tubes can be assembled from the back using a clip. Unscrew the caps separately and be careful not to exchange or get to touch the caps together!. Available in "fast" and "normal" speed. The epoxy runs miserably in large quantities and it must contained (scotch..). Insensitive to moisture when dry, it is also sold in dual piston tubes (I dislike). The mixture to be done threaten most of peaple, but it's a shame. Can be used for filling / restore, especially if the colors or mixed with other ingredients ground in small quantities. The speed glue seems less strong.

The epoxy can fill up relatively large pieces of wood and be planed. This photo shows chips from the most common epoxy "Araldite" glue. The glue was laid in a thick layer (almost half a centimeter) by 30 cm long and 4 cm wide to level  a hollow of wood, I planed the glue the third day to get the right level. I had never tried before.

The two components epoxy glue allow also to bond, repair and reinforce fabric, canvas and leather. We can reinforce a hole. This glue keep a certain flexibilty and won't break the material. Making a strap or putting a buckle to a belt is part of that opportunity, but also to put a patch of fabric in the purpose to sew a button torn off at the waist of a trouser. The metal epoxy adhesive paste can also stiffen; coat or make broken parts.

The "neoprene" adhesives (the shoemaker glue) ; can stick a lot of things, like soles of shoes, laminated, but also wood, hooks whose adhesive fails (the cyano is well also in this case, also superpower Pattex), but they are are thick, not very powerful on a small surface and sensitive to the detergents and thinners ; they can dissolve with the time, but in a good condition, they will hold several tens of years (look at your formica kitchen worktboard. Exist in spray (3M brand, " plastic mount ") for decorating or fixing works (leisure decoration shops). Adhesive for fabrics (same family) can be useful, apart from fabric, for delicate joinings.

Large cartridge of Rubson glue or small pressured ones. (white paste which is washed with water), are rather for large surface works, wood planks, masonry, but sometimes for the medium ones (to stick decoration rods/wooden moulding on a door). It is a very appreciable adhesive for the averages and great surfaces and work not too fine ; tip must be well washed afterwards (there are now equivalent products but Rubson is generally better).

Vinyl wood white glue, inside or outside use (also known as marine). The "outside" adhesive  is much less sensible to moisture and it is that which sticks the plies of "external" plywood (laminated). The wood glue can also be used for hardening the section of the paperboard and wood, while the "outside" glue will seal off it.

Polyurethane outside wood glue (pots, plastic bottles); even less sensible to the moisture; it is thick, yellowish, drop everywhere and forms a foam which expand while overflowing from the joints. Drop but dries quickly. In short, one puts drops and stains almost everywhere and all that has overflowed should be removed afterwards (with a sharp blade). Stick many other materials and fiil up at the same time (cracks, breeze blocks.) fills spaces. Can stick materials of masonry between them or with wood, plugding small holes. I also restuck a wood plate on the pillar of a gate.

Does she deserve the designation of outdoor wood glue ? yes for its resistance to moisture, yes if the surfaces are important, but the swelling of the foam is embarrassing and we must firmly tighten the two parts together. Can't strongly hold with a small area, under leverage action or torque.
Cleaning (fine if fresh), with the substitute for Trichloroethylene (synthetic ester).

Others products.

Glue stick for use with electric heat gun. Or melt in a container. Glue "universal" medium strength on small surface. Suitable for decorations, rods, son, outlets. Miniatures and craft jewelry. Disadvantage, the glue cools quickly and its installation is difficult and tends to "spin", or drip. The - relative - fast cure can be an advantage depending on the work. You can also get burned. There are guns where we push the glue stick the finger, and those who have a trigger.

Vitrifying product for hardening wooden floor. (only one component, glossed, colourless) : I add it to my list although it is not an adhesive, because I stuck with it a calcareous flat stone in my garden path which break after freezing (wash well, rub and let dry before). In fact, this vitrifying is used by amateurs of decoration to make small frames or adornments (sand, shells...) one can finish for the sand, which is dyed with this product, with diluted wood paste, on which one put some sand sand; that holds well !! See my modest attempt in "ideas deco". One must be able to stick many other things with. For a finer work with sand of decoration alone, one sells coated sheets of adhesive (stores of creation-leisures).
Also for a broken pot (see garden.)

Double-sided adhesive into small pellets or rolls, generally serve to fix small hooks on wall or in cabinets (you end up with cyanoacrylate glue or neoprene if they fall ! They can also be used when any adhesive ou glue can't stick on  certain surfaces as greasy plastics, magnets, glass, etc. I succeed to bond a magnet on a metal plate.
In very large roll, the adhesive is less powerful than the smaller one described above, and it is used to immobilize carpets. Also for a block sanding to fix the sandpaper

Gels acrylic art paintings. Their usual usage is to thicken the acrylic paints to give them a big relief. They stick as well enough on much surfaces. See do it yourself art and decoration shops.

Glue "superpower" alesium, resists to all (Pattex). Small tube black and yellow body. The adhesive is thick and remains thick if one does not press; it is announced flexible and it is (gum consistence). Stick well on a relatively large surface, like two plates of glass, of wood, metal, plastic, hooks or magnets of doors (which do not hold with adhesives), up to silicon if not to much strain. . Good for the minor repairs of leather and flexible matters, girdles, end of separated leather (but expensive for a shoe sole ! (the adhesive neoprene is better). Is does not run. Good for insulation of stripped electric wires, repair of wire of earphones of walkman and other plugs which deteriorate or break close to the plug. My repair always holds and I saved my ear-phones. One also can make small non-skid studs and protections under an object (I made some). Also fine shock-proof studs for doors of wall cupboards. In short, I have a tube of it within reach, as for the cyano, that it replaces from now at part-time

The fixing paste, is a product of stationary yellow or white, presented in square blanks. The consistency is that of chewing gum, but it does not dry and does not harden. It is reusable but its adhesive power (medium), is better at first. Do not serve to fix, can block, protect, assemble (son etc).
The gels acrylic paint art. They are used to thicken the colors to give big relief to the paintings, become dry. They stick as well, as inevitably all that is. (Shops and art decoration, do it yourself).

"Universal gun hot glue " medium strength on small surface.

Universal adhesive cellulose is probably the most widely used and has always been his interest, mainly for traditional paper-cardboard collage;medium resistance, could fears humidity. The stronger red tube is my favorite
