They're mostly from late 1999 or 2002 , but it's better than nothing, and they're a historical reference. Looking to update in 2017 by Internet, I noted a 50% increase on two excursions. However, the 2017 price of SP95 gasoline is 133.1 FP, compared to 111.4 FP in 2002. So we can not generalize, but that's an indication. The prices of Tahiti are comparable to those of Noumea, but there are exceptions (Pandanus bag).

Any comparison with the metropolis is quite delicate because it must include, phone, car and rent (very high), and deduct where we spend less (heating, clothing, furniture, taxation (to see ..), limitation of opportunities to spend, not easy to quantify especially as by nature, we always minimize the gains, more affected by the losses ..

The value of the FP is crazy? start by dividing it by 100 !!

  
You are going to have 10,000 Francs tickets (here at the end of 1999), but 1.000 FP are worth only 8.38 euros.   A conversion estimate in euros is to divide the value read by 100, then to remove 10%. Example: on 100 CFP, it gives 9 euros instead of 8.38 which is a bit strong. Removing again 5% to 9 (half of 10% for convenience of calculation), gives 8.55 instead of 8.38. Since 2016, a consumption tax, the TGC, is included, which surely did not help. It does not affect the so-called essential products (mainly food, list published by the government). the implementation of the TGC was carried out in stages, with a 18-month "free-market", at reduced rates (0.25, 0.5 and 1%). Since July 1, 2018, the TGC has three rates: 3%: current food, personal services, local industry products, gas, electricity ... 11%: housing, clothing, fuels ... 22%: automobile, equipment of the house, sweet drinks, alcohol, tobacco ...  Are exempt: exports, basic necessities, health and education services, nurseries, retirement homes ...     

La Tontouta International Airport Link to Noumléa ; cost Jan 2017, 2500 FP per trip and per person for any schedule, which may be lower for particular routes (1500 FP). There is a much cheaper bus, but its schedules are not always compatible.

Nouméa : Telephone unit = 12 CFP (2002). 1040 CFP for a 25 units card : some very short calls in Nouméa for an invitation 150 CFP each ; while chattering a little, that climbs quickly to 500 CFP and more for Nouméa.. Do not request information or the weather from a call box ! that will eat you the third or half of your card, that is to say a dozen of units on the 25.
FAX. For the metropolis, sending of a fax from the Post Office, (2002), 832 CFP for a page. From the hotel: (1999) 1400 CFP for a page.
A "call back" system, less expensive, is there rather widely spread (the amount of the bill is at the rate of the country making the connexion. see "Other sites".

Note for the car insurance "tous risques" There are risks in this country due to the way of driving, roads conditions, huge 4 wheels cars, and kanaks too who like outside rear mirrors ! The excess must be examined, because it could be expensive after (not everything is include).

Housing hiring a flat

Polynesia 2002: minimum rent more than 1000 euros (source groups Internet, 2002).
Hirings in fare from 75 to 150 euros (breakfast) for 2 person a night (2002).

Nouméa (2002) : there are some hotels with a kitchen corner in Noumea (interesting for a long il y a quelques hôtels avec coin cuisine à Nouméa (intéressant pour un séjour). il faut ajouter 4% de taxe TSS sur les prix ci-dessous, ou une taxe fixe de 600 cfp par nuit !! ; à vérifier).

Le Lagon where we spent more than one month (tariff of almost half for this duration). It is in our opinion, after having visited some others, the best quality-situation-price ratio of Nouméa (Déc 99 : 13000 Cfp / day and 225000 CFP/ per month (7500) night (and intermediate prices). Including : kitchen corner (dishes, oven), TV, air condtionned, sheet linen, towels ..).

The Marina Beach is slightly more expensive but does not specify surfaces and does not give a plan : although less better located at our opinion, it can be interesting for some rooms only because there is a problem of overlooking).

10 storage tower facing Anse Vata beach; per week, studio : 56000 CFP et F2 (2 bedrooms) : 70000 CFP ; one month hiring : 130000 à 185000 CFP from the studio to the F2, (prices vary according on floor). Including : kitchen corner (dishes, oven), TV, air condtionned, sheet linen, towels ..). Extra charge for both water and electricity.

New 16 storage tower between the Baie des Citrons and Anse Vata ; according on floor : per week, one bed rom flat : from 63000 to 91000 CFP ; monthly : 250000 à 334000 CFP. Including : kitchen corner (dishes, oven, micro waves), TV, air condtionned, sheet linen, towels ..) Cuisine équipée lave-vaisselle, micro-ondes, four, lavatory corner and washing machine.

There are some bed and breakfast too.

No camp-site in Nouméa.


Black Pearls : They are grey metal with different tone. Be careful, not to buy anything. Prefer stores certifying quality; exclude names AA, A+ or Gem, without valour; prefer them not embedded in a ring because defects can be hidden.

The thickness of mother-of-pearl has a great importance and that is only seen later. Quite round, without spots nor defects, they can be worth 50.000 to 100.000 Cfp for a 10 moms in diameter ! You can have something interesting enough for 15/20.000 Cfp; below, for the small irregular ones, you can still give pleasure, with a price " floor " of 3000 ; but do not buy hastily ", told "directly from the marine farm" !
